Rabbit Insurance Guide
Until recently many pet insurers did not include rabbits in their policies,
how times have changed! Should a rabbit suffer injury or illness, it
is likely to require veterinary attention just like a cat or dog and
vets fees have to be paid.
Like other pet insuring products, rabbit insurance policies usually cover
veterinary fees, boarding fees in the event of the owner requiring
in-patient hospital treatment and advertising and reward costs in the
event the rabbit is lost. Most rabbits are confined to
a cage with an enclosed pen for exercise, therefore benefits associated
with cat and dog policies such as legal liability to a third party
are not applicable.
Most owners of rabbits buy this type of insurance policy to insure
against the rabbit falling ill or suffering an injury. Depending
on the pet insurer the veterinary
section of cover is likely to include referral fees, hospitalisation
costs and complementary medicines for treatment. It is possible that
an excess will apply to each claim and the number of claims maybe restricted
in any given time period with the exception of ongoing conditions.
Every rabbit insurance policy has a stated limit for the maximum amount that
can be claimed for veterinary fees and this generally varies between £2000
and £5000 for the period that the insurance policy for rabbits is in force.
