Young Drivers Urged To Learn Basic
Car Maintenance
A survey recently carried out on behalf
of Direct Line Car Insurance found that high percentages of young
drivers are unable to perform simple car maintenance tasks such
as jump starting a car, replacing tyres, checking oil and break
fluid levels or changing indicator or headlight bulbs. The figures
are surprising given the recent addition of the car maintenance
section to the practical driving test. Older drivers according to
the same survey are more likely to be able to cope with basic car
maintenance compared to their young driver counterparts. The cost
of not being able to do basic car maintenance is two fold, firstly,
there is the additional monetary cost in terms of paying mechanics
and the second issue, is the vehicle safe to be on the road which
has implications for pedestrians and motorists and the validity
of the car insurance policy.
