As general insurance market leader in the UK, Aviva
formerly known as Norwich Union was responsible for insuring 1 in
5 households in 2006 for either buildings, contents or both. To
encourage homeowners to buy combined home insurance, a variety of
discounts are on offer including no claims discounts, purchase of
both buildings and contents, additional discounts for existing motor
customers and increased levels of cover for the Christmas period.
Aviva’s contents policy automatically covers
televisions, personal computers and music entertainment systems
for accidental damage as standard. Customers can opt to upgrade
their policy if they wish to insure other items or furnishings in
the home for accidental damage. All belongings except clothes and
linen are covered on a new for old basis. There is the reassurance
that all door and window locks will be replaced if your keys are
stolen during a burglary by approved tradesman and the contents
of your freezer and items in the garden are also covered up to specified
limits.
Key features of Aviva’s building insurance
are a 24 hour helpline for emergencies, cover for the cost of alternative
accommodation and the tracing and accessing of water leaks.
In addition to upgrading either buildings or contents for accidental
damage, policyholders can also buy additional garden cover and insure
possessions up to specified limits away from the home. Legal insurance
and home emergency cover options are also be added if required.
