There are a number of methods to obtain health insurance quotes in the
UK, these can vary between a quote online, by phone, face to face, or
quotes by post.
It is not uncommon for direct health insurance providers, independent advisors
or agents to use the aforementioned communication methods to
sell this type of healthcare product.
Depending on the type of health product chosen determines whether an immediate
quote is possible or not. Most private health insurance products which
include a moratorium often display a quote price or offer immediate cover
on the basis that no medical underwriting is required. It is normal practice
in some cases for the proposer to complete a paper application form to
confirm the purchase.
With regard to quotes for health insurance products which require medical underwriting,
the provider may ask you to complete an application from declaring all
previous and known medical conditions and seek permission to contact
your General Practitioner for further information if necessary. Once
this process is finished, cover maybe offered subject to conditions and
any medical condition exclusions.
Policy documents and a health insurance policy certificate are usually issued, although
is not inconceivable in the future for this information to be accessed
online. As with most types of insurance, consider reading your policy
at the outset to ensure you are aware of what is covered and what is
not covered. Once the quote is accepted and the policy is purchased you have up to 14 days to
change your mind, provided you have not made a claim. After this period
it is up to the health insurance provider regarding entitlement to any
refund.
